That is the one consistent place S&W put the serial #. DW changed their S/N's starting around 2013 (maybe earlier). There were other S/N designations over the years. I know that if the S/N starts with 13xxxxx, then the pistol was made in 2013 and if the S/N starts with 14xxxxx, then the pistol was made in 2014. In 1962 the serial number was in the C5xxxxx or C6xxxxx range. If in fact your serial number is just five digits (70837) than that "o" may well be a "D"..
